It's been reported that a mysterious ghost lights have been seen in the Sunderban regions of West Bengal, India. Those who have tried to approach these ghost lights have either lost their lives or lost their path in the doom and never returned. These ghost lights are called as "ALEYA", the ghost lights of Sunderban also called as Bengal Swamps.
Surderban regions are covered with largest mangroove forest in the world, it is under the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Only forty percent of this region is in India remaining sixty percent is in Bangladesh.
Aleya is always a mysterious one which even today the scientists and the religious people doesn't know the real fact behind this moving ghost lights.
There various stories behind this Aleya, Ghost light. Some says these ghost lights as fairies, sometimes souls of dead people and sometimes the very evil itself luring you towards it.
The stories are like this....!!!
1. Some say that this light is a fairy fire, held in the hand of puca, a small goblin
like fairy. Puca will hold the light in its hand and out of mischief,
will lead the travelers astray at nights. When they would get closer to
the light, the fire will extinguish and will leave them lost in middle
of nowhere.
2. As per the villagers in these regions, these lights are the spirits of
dead fishermen who lost their lives accidentally in these areas. Some of these souls appear with an intention of killing
another fisherman by leading him off his path in the swamp while others
appear to point him in the right direction.
3. Its an Interesting story,
"
It is said that a long time ago, there lived a king Srutanjaya who ruled all over the Kingdom of Bengal. He was a powerful king whose rule spread all over the northern and western India and stretched all the way till Burma.
Srutanjaya had a son by the name of Alyanjaya, fondly called as Aleya. He was the only son of Srutanjaya and heir to a vast kingdom. He was taught all that he needed to be a good and powerful king by his father. When his son hit puberty, Srutanjaya took him to the most popular game of those times, hunting.
It is said that in order to be called a man and prove his worth as a king, every prince was required to kill a Royal Bengal Tiger which were in plenty in those days. Both father and son went hunting in Sunderban which was also the royal hunting ground. For an entire day, they searched for a tiger endlessly but found none.
Towards the end of the day, just when they were about to give up their search, Aleya noticed a mother Tigress with her small cub by the river. She seemed to be teaching her cub how to drink water off the river carefully, without risking getting in the water. She was completely lost in her cub, unaware of the King’s hunting party which started to surround her. By the time she realized what was happening, it was too late.
There were soldiers all around her and she had nowhere to run. After the Tigress was trapped, Aleya approached her with a bow and an arrow for his first kill and claim of a man. Mother Tigress knew that there was nothing she could do to save herself but she was more worried for her cub and as a last attempt, she picked up the cub with her mouth and tried to leap over the surrounding soldiers.
This however did not save her as Aleya had already shot the arrow which pierced right through her heart but even in her death, she succeeded in breaking the circle of surrounding soldiers which gave the cub a chance to run for its life. No one even tried to chase it as the mission was already accomplished. Aleya had killed a tiger and was no longer a boy.
The young cub however was lost in the Jungle without its mother. For days it roamed around the dense forest in hunger and thirst, barely surviving, looking for its mother. The search finally ended at the exact same spot where the Tigress was teaching her cub to drink water, right before she was killed. The cub, out of thirst, approached the swamp in order to drink water but got in a little too far and drowned.
A few months later, Aleya returned with his father for another Tiger kill and they reached the exact same spot where he had killed his first one, hoping they would find another one drinking water. After a little wait, Aleya noticed another Tigress with a cub at the same spot. He tried to get a closer look and ignoring the warning of his father, stepped in the quicksand or swamp and drowned immediately.
"After the young prince disappeared in the marsh, Srutanjaya, now a grieving father saw the tigress and the cub turn into a shimmering light and vanish. As per the legend, ever since Aleya’s drowning, this light which are believed to be the souls of the mother Tigress and her cub has often misguided the hunters into the swamp and killed them, or in a way, protected the tigers from the hunters.
