Door To Hell,Turkmenistan

It was in 1971 when Soviet Engineers were setting up a drilling rig and operations to assess the quantity of oil present in this site. They found a natural gas pocket and soon after their finding a Crater was formed and all the drilling rig collapsed into the crater and got buried there.

In order to prevent the release of dangerous poisonous gases from it, the engineers thought to burn these gases. They set up the fire to that gases and expected that the gas would burn out within weeks but it didn't happened instead it continued to burn for more than 4 decades.
